The 6-year-old girl was in class at Belle Terre Elementary School in Palm Coast when she raised her hand, needing to go to the bathroom. When the teacher reportedly ignored the girl, she did what kids are known to do when they just can’t hold it in any longer, soiling her underwear and pants.
Rather than call the McCurdys to bring a change of clothes, the girl’s parents say that the school forced her to ride home on the school bus in nothing but a soiled shirt and a pair of school-issued underwear. It led to the girl being “picked on, bullied” and “laughed at,” her mother Jennifer said.
The McCurdys also noted that their little girl “has medical issues and when she has to go, she has to go,” which they say the school knew about.
Mr. McCurdy immediately went to speak with the assistant principal about the incident, saying:
“We asked her why my daughter was sent home in just panties and a T-shirt, and she begins to tell me, ‘We thought she had a long enough shirt to be able to put her on the school bus and send her home.'”
The McCurdys say they’ve hired a lawyer in connection to the incident, explaining that they don’t want any child to be placed in such a situation again.
While the Belle Terre Elementary dress code states that clothing must be a minimum of 4 inches above the knee, the parents say the school violated its own policy by sending her home dressed as she was, as the girl’s shirt left more skin than that exposed.
A study published by the Journal of Urology reports that upwards of 15% of kids wet their pants at school.
Sadly this is more of the fucking same…….
