Tim Brown, the greatest receiver in Raiders history, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame almost four months ago back in early August.
But Sunday, he was able to celebrate his well-deserved enshrinement with Raider Nation in Oakland. At halftime of Sunday’s game against the Chiefs, a special ceremony was held at O.Co Coliseum, where Brown received his Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence.
Brown, who played with the Raiders from 1988 until 2003 before spending one year with the Buccaneers, is eighth in NFL history with 100 receiving touchdowns, sixth with 14,934 career receiving yards and fifth in receptions with 1,094. While with the Raiders, Brown posted nine straight seasons with 1,000-plus receiving yards, earning nine Pro Bowl nods and a pair of First-Team All-Pro honors. He helped Oakland to an AFC Championship in 2002 and was named to the NFL’s 1990s All-Decade Team.
After twice being named a finalist for enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Brown finally was selected for induction in January. Now he has a new piece of jewelry to bring out on special occasions.
“It’s something you need to wear every once in awhile,” Brown said of the ring, via Yahoo! Sports. “My good friend Andre Reed brought his out to a golf tournament and lost it. It took 40 guys two hours to find it. I won’t be taking it to a golf tournament anytime soon. But certainly I’m looking forward to wearing it and displaying it when necessary.”

Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Ralph Peters called President Obama “a total pussy” during a live interview Monday for what he views as his impotent response to the threat of Islamic extremist terrorism.
Peters, a Fox News military analyst, appeared on Stuart Varney’s Fox Business program to respond to Obama’s Sunday night Oval Office address on the threat of terrorism, a speech that was widely panned. Peters, a fierce critic of Obama’s national security policies, was visibly angry as he blasted the speech.
Peters said he was taken aback by Obama’s continued references to Americans not giving into their fears.
“Mr. President, we’re not afraid! We’re angry! We’re pissed off! We’re furious!” Peters said. “We want you to react. We want you to do something. You’re afraid! I mean, this guy is such a total pussy, it’s stunning! We, the American people, who he does not know in any intimate sort of manner, we want action. We want action against Islamic State.”
Peters went on to say that Obama had done more damage to American police departments than to the Islamic State and had restrained the U.S. military.
“This is a president who doesn’t want to hurt our enemies,” Peters said. “This is a president who cares more about thugs in Guantanamo or thugs in Ferguson, Missouri, than he does about law-abiding American citizens and their right to live in safety and peace.”
Varney tried to cut in a couple times after Peters used the foul language.
“I can tell you are super angry, and I asked you what your reaction was, but I’ve got to call you … you can’t use language like that on the program, OK?” Varney said.
Peters muttered, “I’m sorry.”
Later on, Varney again admonished Peters for using “very strong language about the President of the United States,” and Peters again apologized.
“Yes, Stuart, I do apologize for giving into my anger … but I feel the American people understand where I’m coming from on this,” Peters said. “My choice of words was incorrect, but my sentiment, I think, is shared by many.”
Oral sex led to fatal hit-and-run crash
Polk County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in the fatal-hit-and-run of 49-year-old Terry Lamunt Ross, a homeless man riding his bicycle on the shoulder of Highway 92 in unincorporated Auburndale on Saturday.
Randy Joe Allen, 54, of Polk City was identified as the driver behind a green Ford-F250 truck which was seen eaving the scene of the crash by an eyewitness.
The eyewitness was able to provide many details about the truck, including a partial license plate tag number and a description of the vehicle and the driver.
Allen has seven prior arrests in Polk. He was arrested for DUI back in December 2008.
Detectives were able to correctly identify Allen through a DAVID search and went to his residence to arrest him. He was not present, but family members told deputies that Allen and the truck were located at Liquid Larry’s Bar in Lakeland.
Deputies found the damaged truck at the bar. The truck had damage to the front passenger headlight assembly, the hood and passenger side “consistent with the aforementioned crash,” according to the arrest report.
Detectives also reported blood stains appeared to be present on the passenger door.
Allen was approached by deputies and he stated that he believed he struck a stop road sign or a guard rail while driving on Highway 92. He also told deputies that he had a female passenger inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. He said that the passenger distracted him and prevented him from seeing what he hit.
The female passenger was interviewed at the Royal Inn Motel in Winter Haven. When detectives questioned the female passenger about the incident, she stated that she met Allen at the Midway Lounge. After a few drinks, she left the bar with the suspect.
The female passenger then told deputies that she was performing oral sex on Allen while he was driving and heard a loud bump. Allen told her that he hit a road sign and continued driving. Deputies said that the passenger did not see what Allen hit and believed his story.
Further questioning of employees at the Midway Lounge and the Bradley Motel confirmed the investigation’s timeline of events.
Allen was taken to Polk County Jail and charged with one count of Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Death.
The suspect could face additional charges pending results of a blood test. Allen made his first appearance Sunday morning in front of a Polk County judge.
AUBURNDALE, Fla. — The Polk County Sheriff’s Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in unincorporated Auburndale this evening.
Around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, an adult black male riding his bicycle in the grass along the shoulder of US-92 West, heading westbound, was fatally struck by what witnesses describe as a blue pickup truck with large tires. According to the evidence and witnesses, the truck left the roadway onto the grass and struck the bicyclist, then fled the scene westbound heading towards Lakeland.
There is so much more I can say about this but won’t because of the innocent life taken, seriously couldn’t that be just about any one of us at any time in our lives?
