Last week Michelle Obama took a traveled to Liberia, Spain, and Morocco. The one night stay in Morocco alone, cost the taxpayers $612,322.
The first lady traveled to the north African country with her two daughters, and your mother Marian Robinson to promote education with her “let’s girls learn” initiative.
She arrived in Morocco wearing a $1750 designer dress and the night ended with a lavish dinner with Princess Salma and actress Meryl Streep. (so much for the re-distribution of wealth!)
Rooms were booked at 35 star hotels for the 24-hour visit, this according to contracts signed off by the State Department.
Two of those contracts were signed for rooms at the Royal Mansour for $50,000 and $10,073. The hotel has a mother-daughter spa suite and promises its guests wonder luxury and unparalleled services and offers a “spiritual spa journey.”
The Hotel Sofitel Marrakech lounge and spa was also booked for the first lady’s trip that included contract worth $200,000, $31,968, and $28,039. The Secret Service also stayed at the Sofitel four $133,493. A pre-advanced visit cost $4,676.
There were additional rooms booked at the Pearl Marrakech Hotel, costing $24,934.
Renting a car and driver for Mrs. Obama’s visit cost $6,966, and other core services for the Secret Service, the White House military office, and the White House communications agency total $122,173. In all the contracts totaled $612,322.
Aside from the hotel and motorcade costs media estimates that flight for the trip told $300,000.
Morocco was only the second stop on the first lady’s three country visit. She first travel to Liberia and then headed to Madrid on Wednesday to promote girl’s education.
It seems to me that this is been one of the most expensive first ladies we’ve ever had an office.
