Jareth Nebula, 33-year-old, is shunning human gender and is now living as a genderless alien instead.
Jareth transitioned from female to male when he was 29 years old. Unwilling to publicly disclose his real birth name, the now-33-year-old new legal moniker was inspired by David Bowie’s character, Jareth, the Goblin King from Jim Henson’s 1986 cult-classic fantasy movie Labyrinth.
But now, he believes he doesn’t fit into any gender, whether male or female, and he’s actually an alien from another planet. Though he doesn’t want to be either a man or a woman and prefers to be called ‘it’ or ‘thing,’ he’s happy to be referred to as ‘he’ or ‘him.’
JARETH GOT TIRED OF TRYING TO FIT INTO HUMANITY
According to Jareth, it’ like he was always trying to “fit into someone else box.” And these days, he’s so happy to identify as an alien with no gender because he doesn’t think or feel like other humans.
Jareth said in an interview:
“After coming out as transgender and believing I had finally found myself, I realized I was wrong – I wasn’t male or female, or even human.”
“I don’t think or feel like humans. I can’t really explain it to others – I’m simply otherworldly.”
“I didn’t feel comfortable as either gender or even anything in between. I know I’m stuck in a human form, and that’s how I’m perceived by others – but to me, I’m an alien with no gender.”
He even changed his real name, choosing “Jareth” after David Bowie’s character in Labyrinth, and “Nebula,” like an outer-space cloud.
AND IT ALL STARTED WHEN WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A RARE LIFELONG CONDITION
He first felt like he doesn’t fit in into humanity when he was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), a rare condition that affects connective tissues. It results in a stretchy skin and increased mobility in joints.
His doctors even nicknamed him, “Mr. Elastic.” And that’s when he realized he was completely different from the rest of the humans.
One benefit of his condition is that Jareth looks much younger than he actually is because he’s “wrinkle-free.”
Speaking about his condition, he said:
“The condition means I can pop my joints out on purpose, which was a fun party trick when I was a kid.”
“Now I realize why I could do that. My pain in my joints got worse as I got older, and I would find it harder to move day today.”
“I get to a chiropractor once every two weeks and see a physical therapist once a week, as well as smoking medicinal marijuana for the pain – but there is currently no cure for EDS.”
Jareth’s new looks include numerous body modifications, such as having his nipples removed, piercings, shaving his eyebrows off and tattoos. In fact, he has tattooed over 33 stars on his body and is planning to increase the number to 333 because “three has always been [his] lucky number.”
