This 2 Elderly Dudes Escaped A Nursing Home
To Attend World’s Biggest Heavy Metal Concert

Two elderly men decided to escape the drudgery of their nursing home and do something decidedly badass— attended a heavy metal concert.

When you think of a man in his twilight years, you might imagine an old fellow sitting in front of a TV, walking with the house sleepers, holding a can, or sitting on the front porch surrounded by grandchildren.

Yet, I sure none of you ever imagined an old man in a heavy metal concert. Well, two German seniors couldn’t resist the urge to spend their precious time at such an event.

In the rural district of Dithmarscher, the two old men knew won’t be allowed to leave their nursing home to attend the concert. So, they got an idea to sneak out of the facility when the security guards weren’t looking and attend a heavy metal music concert.

The yearly Wacken Open Air music festival (considered one of the largest heavy metal festivals worldwide) was taking place in Hamburg, about a 25-mile trek from their nursing home.

And it featured popular bands like Judas Priest, Death By Sorry, Danzig, and Cannibal Corpse. Over 75,000 heavy metal fans attended the four-day festival, and among them, two elderly men who apparently escaped their retirement home to rock out.

According to a spokesman for the Itzehoe police department, the two men made their way to the festival by foot and public transport, but it’s unclear when exactly they arrived in Wacken and how much time they spent at the concert.

The two men, whose names weren’t disclosed by authorities, were found at 3 am, reportedly “disoriented and dazed” after a long and debaucherous trek into the world of loud, angry music.

A police spokesperson said:

“They were then taken to the medical tent on the festival site and were sent back by taxi at around 6:30 am. We had to explain to them why they had to go home — but in the end, they went back voluntarily.”

Police said in a press release that officers in patrol spotted the men, ‘who were apparently intrigued with the metal festival.’

The statement added:

“Of course, their disappearance was noticed at the nursing home, and their swift return there was organized after police picked them up.”

It was also reported that the old men ‘were reluctant to go back to the nursing’ and a police patrol car had to accompany the contracted taxi to make sure they didn’t return to the concert.

A photo showing other elderly people rocking out at the festival was posted on Twitter and Wacken Open Air responded:

“Seriously? How cool is that, please?”

“You’re never too old to rock.”

    1. It is something Iwould do if so inclined.
