IRS STIMULUS TRACKING TOOL HAVING ISSUES

IRS STIMULUS TRACKING TOOL

A tool launched Wednesday by the Internal Revenue Service to track Americans’ stimulus relief checks is not working for many, according to individuals who reached out to CNBC Make It.

The Get My Payment tool is meant to give those eligible for a coronavirus stimulus check information on when they will receive their payment. Instead, many are receiving messages that their payment status is not available.

The IRS has not responded to a call for comment.

IRS STIMULUS TRACKING TOOL HAVING ISSUES

The agency’s website says that receiving “Payment Status Not Available” means the agency cannot determine your eligibility for a payment right now. “This may occur for a variety of reasons, for example, if you didn’t file either a 2018 or 2019 tax return or you recently filed and the return has not been fully processed,” the site says.

MAYBE NO DIRECT DEPOSIT INFO

If you are eligible for a payment, but receive feedback that the IRS “needs more information,” then the agency does not have your direct deposit information on file, the agency’s FAQ says.

In that case, you will need to provide your bank account information, once you have verified your identityto receive the check fastest, or wait for it to be mailed to you. You can use Get My Payment to update your direct deposit information if you did not use direct deposit on your last tax return to receive a refund, the IRS says. If your payment is pending or has been processed, you can no longer change your bank account information.

Payment status updates on the site are made no more than once each day.

DAWG SAYS: FOR MYSELF I TRIED AND ONE OF THE QUESTIONS WAS DID I GET A REFUND OR HOW MUCH DID I PAY?

I DID NEITHER BUT DID NOT GIVE THAT OPTION SO I COULD NOT GO FURTHER THAN I AM ELIGIBLE FOR THE STIMULUS.

BUT HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH NOR LET ME ENTER DIRECT DEPOSIT INFO. SO EVENTUALLY I WILL RECEIVE A PHYSICAL CHECK.

  2. Pretty much. Because I am an old fart, I do my taxes using the paper forms and mail them in every year. I’ve been doing this for a while. Never has it taken me more than three, maybe four weeks to get my income tax refund mailed back to me.

This year it’s nine weeks and counting. When I go to the IRS page to check the status of my refund, it says no information is available and directs me to call the customer service hotline. I call the customer service hotline, and get a recorded message–in English and Spanish–saying the customer service call center has been shut down for the duration as “non-essential,” recommending that I go to the IRS page to check the status of my refund.

I’m in Michigan, by the way. The liquor stores and “medical marijuana” stores are “essential,” according to the Governor, and they get to stay open during what amounts to martial law and a 24/7 curfew. The convenience stores where they sell lottery tickets are, likewise, “essential.” Know what’s not “essential” in Michigan? Banks. Also, you’d think that they could patch our cratered moonscape of a highway system right now since everyone’s at home and for once there’s almost no traffic. Nope! Patching the pavement isn’t “essential” either. And it’s not like I can go to the range to keep in practice while I wait for Queen Gretchen the Witless to reopen the state, because those are also “non-essential.” Dope and booze good, highway repair and gun ownership bad. It’s like Clown World, but less funny.

It would be funny except there are many people starting to suffer very badly…..
