South Lake Tahoe business owners call for resignation of mayor
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE MAYOR PRESSURED TO RESIGN
On this holiday weekend in South Lake Tahoe, a ban on visitors is producing backlash, and a new effort launched just two days ago to force the mayor to resign.
South Lake Tahoe’s officers are actively enforcing the ban with $1000 fines.
But on Sunday, there was pushback.
A GoFundMe campaign has raised more than $13,000 so far to move Mayor Jason Collin out of Tahoe. The message to resign is resonating with a variety of business owners who have been hurt by the ban on out-of-town visitors.
“As a business owner here, a lot of us are tourism-based,” said Dreu Murin, who owns an advertising agency in South Lake Tahoe. “And without tourists, we don’t survive.”
