A Mississippi assistant principal lost his job after he read to a group of second graders.
According to WLBT, Toby Price was preparing a Zoom call for the second grade class at Gary Road Elementary School in Byram, a suburb of Jackson, but there was a delay with the person who was supposed to call the class (the principal at the school they would attend next year).
Price was pressed into action to keep the kid’s engaged until the Zoom call could happen.
“My boss had asked me to set up a Zoom with the second grade classes and the principal at the school they’re going to be at next year and she was going to read to them. And she didn’t show,” Price said. “My boss told me ‘Go ahead and read.’ I grabbed one of my favorite books that I had nearby, I read it to them. It’s a funny, silly book.”
The book? “I Need A New Butt” by Dawn McMillan and Ross Kinnaird, a children’s book full of “hilarious rhymes and delightful illustrations” aimed at entertaining both children and adults, according to Google Books.
Price said he read the book because he had read it at different schools during his career.
“I didn’t think twice about reading it because I’ve never had an issue with it before. There are other books that have much more suggestive material that are much more widely accepted,” Price said.
DAWG SAYS: SAD TO SEE THAT AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPLE WOULD THINK THIS IS A “FUNNY SILLY BOOK” APPROPIATE FOR 2nd GRADERS. AND HE ADMITS HAS DONE IT BEFORE.
