A special prosecutor in North Carolina has declined to file charges against an off-duty lieutenant who shot a man after the man jumped on his windshield and began beating his truck with a windshield wiper, then lunged at him.

On January 8, 2022, off-duty Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Jeffrey Hash was driving in his pickup truck when 37-year-old Jason Walker “ran into traffic” and jumped onto the hood of the truck.

In a letter dated April 21, 2022, Special Prosecutor Kimberly Spahos further explained that Hash’s wife and teen age daughter were also both in the pickup.
