Biden Administration Quietly Raised Amount of Ethanol Required in Summer Blend Gasoline from Ten Percent to Fifteen, Three Predictable Problems Will Surface Soon
Last Friday the Biden administration raised the mandatory amount of biofuel, specifically ethanol, that must be blended within the U.S. gasoline supply. The previous amount of 10% (summer blend) was raised to a year-round 15% (waiver) by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This is likely to lead to two sets of bigger issues, less food and higher gas prices.

I would like to talk about the damage to engines. As the article states, engines are not designed to run on 15% alcohol. There is a host of problems that arise by doing this. 1. The Oxygen sensors are tuned for gasoline, not alcohol. Alcohol requires a richer mixture per unit volume of Oxygen. What this means is that the computer that reads the O2 sensors will cause the fuel to be leaner than what is optimal. Although this can result in temporary increase in engine power, it will eventually cause damage to engine components. It can also cause the throttle body to freeze up during the winter. Alcohol is also corrosive to fuel lines, fuel filters and injector seals. I speak from experience. I had a 4 cylinder Chevy S-10 that struggled pulling a racecar up over the Grapevine. So, I poured several gallons of alcohol into the tank. Instant Power! I made it over the Grapevine and back, several times, but eventually ended up destroying my engine and had to rebuild it.
